MAC ISLAND
Music, notes and a file tray, available from the top of your screen.

REQUIREMENTS
An Apple Silicon Mac (M-series chip) running macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
Intel Macs are not supported by this download.
Playback connects to Spotify, Apple Music, or supported YouTube Music players on the same Mac.

INSTALL
1. Unzip the download.
2. Drag Mac Island.app into your Applications folder.
3. Open Mac Island from Applications.
4. Move your pointer to the notch to reveal the island. On a Mac without a
notch, use the top center of the screen. Move away to collapse it.

There is no Dock or menu-bar icon. The app does not start at login automatically.
Right-click an empty area of the open island to quit or see privacy details.
Welcome & Launch at Login reopens the guide and offers optional launch at login.
It is off by default; macOS may require approval in Login Items settings.

UPDATES
Use the manual update method for now:
1. Download and unzip the newer shared ZIP.
2. Quit Mac Island from the island's right-click menu.
3. Replace Mac Island.app in the same Applications folder with the new copy.
4. Open it again. Your notes and file tray stay in the app's separate container.
Text notes migrate to the image-capable format. Older builds preserve but cannot
edit this newer notes format.
The right-click menu also includes How to Update.

This shared build has no active update connection or automatic update alerts.
In-app downloading and Install & Relaunch are prepared for a future signed
public release; installing that first release will be manual.

FIRST-LAUNCH SECURITY PROMPT
This is a locally signed shared build, not an Apple-notarized release.
macOS may block its first launch because the developer cannot be verified.
If you trust the person who shared it, first try opening the app. Then open
System Settings > Privacy & Security and, if offered for Mac Island, choose
Open Anyway and confirm. Managed Macs may not allow this exception.

Apple's instructions:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/102445

If macOS reports that the app is damaged or contains malware, stop and ask
the sender for help. Do not disable Gatekeeper or other system protections.

EVERYDAY USE
- Music: Mac Island automatically follows the most recently started player.
For one-time setup, right-click the island > Music Connections and open
the player's entry. Spotify and Apple Music use macOS Automation permission:
open the app, play a song, then click Connect.
Drag the progress bar to seek; the volume slider changes only that player.
Lyrics follow the active player. No music developer account is needed.
- YouTube Music in Safari, Chrome, Brave, or Edge: open music.youtube.com in
that browser, then open its Music Connections entry for setup instructions
and Connect for macOS permission. Chromium web apps work when their tabs
are exposed by the parent browser. Safari Dock web apps and Firefox are
not supported by this connection; use a regular supported browser tab.
Only YouTube Music page content is read, not other websites. The browser
connection checks open-tab URLs locally to locate YouTube Music.
- Pear Desktop (formerly th-ch YouTube Music): enable its API Server plugin,
use host 127.0.0.1 and port 26538, and keep authorization enabled. Open
Music Connections > YouTube Music · Pear, click Connect, then approve Mac Island in Pear.
To revoke access, remove Mac Island in Pear's API Server authorized clients.
Other third-party YouTube Music wrappers are not currently supported.
- Lyrics: click the quote-bubble below the cover for floating lyrics. Drag the
top strip (including its empty space) to move it; use its dots menu to change opacity. The cursor button lets
clicks pass through it; the cursor button stays clickable to turn interaction
back on. You can also right-click the notch and choose Make lyrics interactive. The X hides it and stops lyrics lookups.
- Notes: type to save automatically. Use + for a new note and the stack menu
to switch between notes or delete one. Paste a clipboard screenshot or an
image copied from Finder with Command-V. Click an image to select it, then
copy, cut or delete it. Double-click to enlarge it. Images save inside the
note locally. Text wraps within the card and long notes scroll vertically.
- Floating notes: click Float, or drag that button onto the desktop. Resize
the floating note as needed; edits share the same saved content. Drag its
top handle toward the notch and release when Release to dock appears.
Closing a floating window keeps its note. Windows do not reopen after quit.
- Text capture: select text in an app that supports macOS Services, then
right-click > Services > Send to Mac Island (or use the app's Services menu).
A new local note opens in the island. Your clipboard and original text stay
unchanged. Availability depends on the source app; no Accessibility access
is needed. Selections over 1 MiB are rejected rather than truncated.
- Files: drag files to the notch to open the tray. Use the tray icon beside
note controls to show stored files and the two-card icon to return to music
and notes, without emptying the tray. Removing items only removes references,
never original files. Your view choice stays selected across hovers.
- Escape collapses the island. Right-click empty island space for Quit.

PRIVACY
This download contains only the app and this guide, with no personal notes,
file references, Spotify account details or other user data.

Notes, embedded images, captured text and file references are stored locally in the app's sandbox container.
There are no analytics, ads, notes/files cloud sync, Mac Island server or active
updater in this shared build. The future
public release will also connect to its GitHub
release host to check for updates and download them when you choose to update.
The app does not request microphone, camera or screen-recording access.
Spotify, Apple Music and supported browsers use local Apple Events with your macOS permission. Pear uses only its loopback API; its token stays in Keychain.

Spotify covers download from i.scdn.co over HTTPS. YouTube covers use exactly lh3.googleusercontent.com, lh3.ggpht.com, yt3.ggpht.com, yt3.googleusercontent.com and i.ytimg.com. Apple Music covers come from the Music app. When floating lyrics are open,
the song title, artist, album and duration are sent to lrclib.net over HTTPS.
Lyrics are cached only in memory; hiding the panel stops lookups. LRCLIB receives
normal network metadata such as your IP address. Lyrics availability varies.
No notes or files are uploaded. Cover requests use no account, cookies or
stored credentials, and covers are cached only in memory. Spotify's image
server receives the requested cover ID and normal connection metadata such
as your IP address. Spotify itself may also use the internet.

Each person starts with their own local notes and file tray.
